National Screening for Pigeon Poison Allergens Launched for the First Time

Hyderabad: The city-based Aswini Allergy Centre, renowned pioneers in the field of allergy and immunological disorders, has announced a series of impactful nationwide awareness events as part of the celebrations marking World Allergy Week 2023, from June 18th to June 24th.
With a commitment to spreading awareness and providing solutions, Aswini Allergy Centre aims to address the urgent need to tackle allergies and immunological disorders during World Allergy Week.
Starting with Hyderabad, Aswini Allergy Centre has announced a nationwide screening camp dedicated to identifying pigeon poison allergens by conducting free camps for 1000 people.
“Allergic diseases and environmental changes share a close relationship, with 60-70% of allergic disorders in humans being attributed to environmental factors alone. Pollens, pollution, moulds (fungal spores), bird dust, and biofuel fumes contribute not only to severe immunological changes leading to deadly allergies but also result in permanent and irreversible damage to human organs, including a significant concern posed by pigeons,” said Chief Allergist & Immunologist Dr Vyakarnam Nageshwar.
Impact of Pigeon Poison Allergens: The detrimental impact of pollens, pollution, fungal spores, bird dust, and biofuel fumes goes beyond extreme immunological changes, leading to life-threatening allergies. They also contribute to permanent, irreversible damage to human organs, with pigeons emerging as a significant concern.
Several studies on pigeon poison have revealed the presence of potential allergenic proteins within pigeon droppings.
The latest studies reveal that Histoplasmosis, Candidiasis, Cryptococcosis are the major environmental Polluting Fungal elements emitted mostly from Pigeon faecal matter when dried.
These Fungal spores enter the human body by inhalation after exposure to pigeons, resulting in various allergy problems like a running nose, sinusitis, asthma, itching of eyes, repeated respiratory infections, later stages cause irreversible lung damage, and in a few cases serious neurological complications.
“Estimates suggest that 30 to 40% of people are exposed to pigeon feather allergies, or even more dangerously, pigeon fecal exposure. This exposure manifests in children as well, as allergic diseases such as asthma, allergic rhinitis, but in adults it will manifest as allergic urticaria, allergic sinusitis, and allergic angioedema,” warned Dr Vyakarnam Nageshwar.
However, the most perilous consequence arises in the form of hypersensitivity Pneumonitis, which causes immunological damage to the lungs and subsequent infections. These patients undergo numerous hospitalizations, relying heavily on antibiotics and other supportive measures.
Ultimately, some individuals develop interstitial lung disease or a fibrotic lung disease, resulting in a life where breathing becomes an agonizing struggle for oxygen.
National Screening Camp for Pigeon Poison Allergens: In an effort to combat the harmful impact of pigeon exposure, a team of medical experts led by Dr. Vyakarnam Nageshwar has planned to initiate the screening of patients using the Modified Allergen Skin Prick Test by conducting a free month-long screening camp in Hyderabad spread over a month.
This National Screening for Pigeon Allergens was launched by DGP Sri Anjani Kumar ji IPS at his office. Dr. Vyakarnam Nageshwar conducted the Modified Allergy skin prick Test upon Telangana police boss & shared the significance of his Allergy testing results.
“This test aims to identify specific pigeon feather allergens and pigeon fecal allergens within the human body. Don’t miss this opportunity to have your concerns addressed by identifying and addressing the root cause of pigeon allergies,” informed Dr Vyakarnam Nageshwar.
On this occasion, The National waste management & climate control expert & Lead Mr. Abhijith Jayanthi was there at the event. DGP was updated about Hyderabad’s increasing allergic status due to increasing human waste & steps that could be taken to prevent environmental pollution.
To register for the screening of suspected allergies or exposure to pigeon dust, interested members can simply send their name, location address, and contact number to 7032000563 by SMS or WhatsApp.
These initial steps in detecting pigeon allergens offer hope to the 30 to 40% of exposed patients, potentially preventing further lung and organ damage.
